Alexandria Eregbu – Portrait.JPG

Alexandria Eregbu is an artist, curator, and visionary. On a fundamental level, Alexandria believes that art and expression are essential functions of community. As such, her work has been most dedicated to providing creative experiences that empower black audiences and communities engaging the arts. Alexandria’s early interests on the purpose of art within communities was initially fostered through her involvement as Lead Teaching Artist and Co-Founder of the Community Curatorial Project with TRACE (Teens Re-Imagining Art, Community, and Environment)— a youth activism program facilitated through the Chicago Park District between 2014-2017. Most recent curatorial projects include Envisioning Justice— a city-wide initiative which examined the impact of incarceration on local artist and communities and Afrosurrealist collective, du monde noir co-founded by Devin Cain and Krista Franklin in 2012.

As an artist, Alexandria’s practice draws from history, lived experiences, and her own imagination to deepen her connectivity to the natural world. Her multi-vocational practice has received generous support from Rebuild Foundation, Independent Curators International, Joyce Foundation, and 3Arts. She received her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
