Jane Resnick (b. 1987, Pennsylvania) studied fine arts at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. She works in oil, on canvases ranging in size from handheld to larger than human scale. Recently, because of difficulties holding a brush, she has taken to painting with knives and with her hands.
The major theme that persists in her paintings is the concept of axis mundi, the connection between the earth and the heavens. In some paintings, lower realms ascend towards higher realms. A painting itself can be in a state of ascending or descending; or it may depict a broader view of the earthly to the divine connection, such as the suggestion of a navel or a mountain.
Primarily a self-taught artist, she is greatly influenced by her first year painting teacher, David Chow.
